Until the turn of the 20th century, cupcake pans were virtually unheard of forcing bakers to use more formidable cups for baking, unless they wanted to bake their small cakes into loaf form. Using hearth ovens, which needed longer cooking times for larger cakes, caused bakers to seek other ways to bake their cake and still have time to eat it. With the advent of the cupcake, not only were bakers able to achieve shorter cooking times, they were also able to change the way they prepared them once the baking part was finished. No longer did bakers need to create larger, heavier cakes. With the production of the cupcake, people could slake their desire for something small and sweet.
Its midnight and you ’ve got the munchies. What do you do? There is a box of cold pizza from two nights ago and a few pieces of leftover sushi, but your taste buds are craving something different, something sweeter, a delectable morsel that will perfectly melt in the mouth. A commercial flashes on the television; it ’s that faithful Pillsbury dough boy busy mixing up a batter of rich creamy cupcake batter! Eureka!
Finally, a few words in regards to the convenience of cupcakes vs cake for your wedding. Most venues provide an adequate stands for cakes, while more often than not you ’ll end up having to buy or hire a cupcake stand (until wedding venues catch up). But then, there ’s the obvious convenience of cupcakes: they are portions in themselves. If your catering arrangement is all inclusive, it might be of no use to you. It does make difference, however, for those of you who prefer to keep your wedding a more personal affair, yet don ’t want your mums spending hours cutting, serving and tidying up.
